Testimonial:
Up until 2 years ago, I had hunted upland game and waterfowl over Labs only, then I purchased a started 8 month old German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) from William Thomas of High Country Shorthairs in Neola Utah.
"Jemma" is now coming 2 years old and she is a pro! Will had worked with her pointing and hold skills primarily. With the skills that William cultivated and encouraged, Jemma has become a great dog to hunt with. She is a great pet and has an immense amount of love for myself as well as anyone else who handles her!
My hunting experiences with Jemma are almost exclusively with Pheasant and Chukkar, wild as well as farm raised birds. She has a big heart, never giving up the search. Her nose is amazing. I have been with her when the gunner missed his bird and it set down 1/4 mile away. Going back an hour later, after finishing the hunt, she was able to locate that same rooster in the center of a 100 acre CRP (dry grass) field, holding on the bird until we caught up with her. This time the hunter didn't miss!
A few months ago, I purchased another pup from High Country/William, (Libby). She was started as well, and she is progressing nicely, I don't know if it is William's dogs exclusively or if all GSP's are pliable and receptive to training, "Libby" is an energetic pup that has been extremely receptive to her obedience training. Along with my wife, we work with our dogs nearly every day, 4 to 5 hours per week. Spending time with any dog is critical to it's success.
The dogs we have purchased from High Country are beautiful, genetically sound, ambitious hunters with amazing noses. Most of all, they are sweethearts that are loyal and loving, with willingness and pliability that allows them to be trained the way you want!
